VLAP is a volunteer organization, funded entirely by donations, created to facilitate transferring retired racing greyhounds to adoption groups to be placed into forever homes.

We are a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization, incorporated as a Non-Profit Charitable Corporation in the State of Pennsylvania and operating as an affiliate chapter of  Greyhound Pets of America.

Greyhounds love to run, and they have a strong prey drive. That, and the fact that they are the second fastest land animal, is why they are so good at racing. However, not all dogs are good enough to race, and the ones that are have to retire by the age of 5. Considering that they have a 12-14 year life expectancy, they still have a lot of quality life left in them after they retire.

Fortunately, as a breed they are calm, quiet and affectionate, which is why they make excellent pets. We are one of many groups nationwide dedicated to assist in finding forever homes for these awesome creatures. Most greyhound adoption groups work to find people to adopt a retired racer to take into their family. Our focus is a bit different. Many adoption groups do not live in close proximity to a racing kennel or farm, so retired dogs are not readily available to them. Our goal is to be able to provide that transportation service so that adoption groups can get the dogs they need to place into homes.

If you are looking for a canine companion, please consider adopting one of these wonderful greyhounds from an adoption group in your area.
